Our Mission

imassage understands the success of the industry lies in the moments of interaction between therapist and client. All programs are designed to offer technical and interpersonal skills to strengthen this therapeutic relationship. Our goal is to assist in the development of a professional, healthy practitioner that exceeds client expectations.

Our Team
Optimal Body Mechanics Eric Stephenson, LMT, NCTMB
Director, Massage Education

Eric co-founded imassage to provide the industry with quality training, allowing therapists to grow and be successful. In a field prone to injury and burnout, Eric creates programs focusing on how to achieve therapeutic results and exceed client expectations, while minimizing physical stress to the therapist. He strives to create a positive, creative class environment honoring each student's learning style.

Eric is licensed in Kentucky , nationally certified, and currently teaches for massage schools, spas and professional organizations nationwide. He has additional training in Kinesis Myofascial Integration, Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques® and is a graduate of The Spirit of Learning®, a 90-hour massage educator training program. Eric is a graduate of the Body Therapy Institute (BTI) of North Carolina. He is a former faculty member of BTI and the Lexington Healing Arts Academy of Kentucky.

 
John McKelvey, LMBT, NCTMB
Instructor

John received his massage therapy training from the Body Therapy Institute (BTI) in NC where he is currently a Lead Instructor as well as the program manager for the Massage Therapy Diploma Program. Drawing upon his knowledge as a graduate teaching assistant at UNC and lead hands-on instructor for BTI, John brings many years of teaching experience to imassage. In addition to being nationally certified and licensed in the state of North Carolina, John is a certified Kinesis Structural Integrationist, a 500-hour program taught by Tom Myers. He has completed The Spirit of Learning®, a 90-hour massage educator-training program.

John holds an MS in Geology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a BS in Natural Resources from the University of the South in Sewanee, TN. His private practice is based in Chapel Hill, NC.

 
Debra Koerner
Director, Client Experience

Debra co-founded imassage and brings her knowledge of consumer behavior to all integral parts of the company. She is a member of the International Spa Association’s marketing committee and is developing training for spas on how to implement strategies to increase guest satisfaction by focusing on employees.

Debra most recently held a management position with a Fortune 250 company. She was responsible for defining the ideal consumer experience and managing strategies to help her company deliver that experience. A seasoned workshop leader, she has a wide array of business knowledge, including expertise in strategy development, customer satisfaction assessment, training design and large-scale event planning. Debra is currently completing a Yoga Alliance teacher training program and will incorporate yoga self-care strategies in upcoming workshops.
